Summer Denim Is the Top Trend This Season

Memorial Day Weekend is here and that means my favorite time of year is, too….summertime! Most of the schools are wrapping up and everyone is getting ready to kickoff their summer activities. You have been working out all year getting ready for the warm weather, so now it’s time to ditch the workout clothes and go for the casual look I like to call California Southern Style! It is “THE” style worn by those of us who call the South our home but also love the effortless chic style of the west coast – it is pretty and put together, yet casual and comfortable! One of the easiest ways to pull this look off is with summer denim, light leather handbags, fun sandals, drapey tops and long necklaces paired with layers of bracelets. Summer denim means bright, fun colors, cropped jeans with zippers, lots of white – either skinny, wide leg or cropped, or prints galore in summer colors. Add a tank or loose fitting tee, and a pair of sandals, and you are ready for the beach or the lake. Rolled up is great for day and then to easily transition into a night out to your favorite local restaurant just roll down your cuffs, add heels, fluff hair, and add a little lipstick. When I wear a pastel or bright pair of jeans anything goes on top. Prints, solids, tees, silks – you name it as long as it’s complimentary in color to my bottoms. On the other hand, when I wear a print I tend to pair them with a solid tee shirt for day or a solid color silk top for night. If the print is a toned down one, a bright top looks awesome and if it’s a bold one it’s always easiest to pair with white, cream or black to help balance the brightness of the pants. As always, putting the right accessories with the outfit can really make the difference. For summer, I like light-colored leather handbags or fun, bright colored embroidered bags. An easy, breezy straw bag can also complete the perfect outfit and really says California scene with a southern flair! To finish the look, match a pair of sandals with the handbag + add a pretty bohemian necklace and earrings and you have a look that you can wear anywhere.
